The Four Levels of Data Use

Strategic — understand what your supporters want and who your donor base really is; set measurable goals; and evaluate what worked and what impact it had.

Operational — concrete design and wording decisions: who gets the mailing? Ask for one-off donations or memberships? Which argument best moves someone to sign?

Content — analyses that strengthen your message and give your communication a factual basis (this is why data journalism keeps growing).

Communicative — using data and good visualisation to show supporters the effect their time or money has had.

How We Work

We develop each analysis in dialogue. Tell us the questions you want answered — what the actual problem is — and we propose how to get the answer out of the data, handling both the concept and the concrete code.

The point is practical results, not academic work: clear decision aids the whole organisation understands. The best analysis won’t improve a single decision if nobody understands it — so we automate as much as possible and keep everything as legible as we can. That’s also the great advantage of analysis by code rather than by Excel spreadsheet.
